Welcome Back — There's a Chapter You Won't Want to Miss
Welcome! We are so glad to be starting a new school year alongside you. In the next ten days, I will send my own four children back to school and into the influence of teachers and friends. As it is at the beginning of every year, I am hopeful about what the year will bring and excited to see how they will be shaped. I know you have those same feelings for your children, and Meadowbrook is honored by the responsibility and excited to watch your children thrive!
This summer in Dallas had a little extra flair if you took part in any World Cup festivities. My family enjoyed a couple of the games on the big screen in Klyde Warren Park. One evening while we were there, I noticed my youngest, a 12-year-old, hesitating to jump into a pick-up soccer game that had developed on one of the fields. He needed a little push (and a $5 bribe!), but watching him play with this group of strangers turned out to be incredibly moving. There were players of all ages, and while the competition was fierce, each person generously passed the ball and encouraged one another, especially the younger children, regardless of the outcome. My son had the opportunity to be part of the excitement and later told me it was the most fun night of his summer.
Even as I sit here recounting the story, my eyes are filling with tears. It seems a little silly, but there was something about the community feeling of that group, his confidence to try something new, and the love and joy that surrounded the whole scene that made this mom's heart absolutely melt.
Meadowbrook family, I'm hopeful that every day at school this year holds some element of that same confidence, community, love, joy, or learning for your little one. I don’t think that's a lofty goal. I know not every day can be a great day, but our commitment to you remains as our mission states: "for every child to love school, be excited about learning, and feel good about themselves."
That night in the park, what stayed with me most was how naturally the group passed the ball to whoever needed it most. It's in that same spirit of generosity that we're hosting a book drive this year for West Dallas Community School, which serves underprivileged children in our area. Learn more about their mission at wdcschool.org. Teaching our children to be confident, curious learners means little if we don't also teach them to share their gifts with the community around them.
Thank you, as always, for trusting us with your children. I am wholeheartedly energized and inspired to see what type of Meadowbrook Magic our community will create this year. Let’s start by emptying their wish list and sending books straight to West Dallas Community School!!
