Inspirations from Artemis

If you happen to follow my personal social media accounts (which you’re more than welcome to do if you enjoy seeing a ton of pictures of my four gorgeous children), then you already know I’ve been completely captivated by the recent Artemis II mission to the moon.
My aforementioned children have grown very weary of me constantly referencing the incredible humans aboard that spacecraft—and of me sending videos to their social media accounts—so I’m redirecting all that energy and enthusiasm to you instead.
In the press conferences following the crew’s return, I’ve been struck by how many of their reflections focus less on scientific discovery and more on the human experience.
Below are a few of the inspiring, deeply human words I’ve heard from the crew:
“We’ve done this together. Your hearts lifted our hearts.”

“You realize pretty quickly how small you are—and at the same time, how incredible it is that humans can do something like this together.”

“We launched as friends and we came back as best friends.”

“You rely on each other for everything. There’s a level of trust and connection that’s hard to describe unless you’ve lived it.”
“We don't always do great things ... but our default is to be good and to be good to one another.
While a year here at Meadowbrook may not compare to a journey around the moon, it has absolutely inspired me to celebrate the work we do here—AND to keep reaching even higher.

Like the crew of Artemis, the teachers in this building lift one another—I’ve seen it. I’ve watched parents and members of our board come together to accomplish remarkable things on behalf of your children. And I’ve seen student relationships that began as friendships grow into lifelong bonds.

And that same sense of connection also exists in our classrooms.  After all, our young learners are working together toward a goal far bigger than they can imagine at three, four, or five years old.
Part of our mission at Meadowbrook is to create lifelong learners, and we want each child to leave with the confidence to dream. Who knows—one day, a Meadowbrook student may land on the moon or lead a mission to Mars. Quite frankly, that wouldn’t surprise me at all.

We are not perfect—far from it—but as a community, I can clearly see that our “default is to be good and to be to one another.”

With just three action-packed weeks left in the school year, we have so much to celebrate. I look forward to seeing you around campus—at the Spring Program, at Graduation —as we reflect on the things that made this year special.   And if you see me, feel free to stop and chat—about our mission, our students…or, if you’re brave, Artemis.
